Derek teaches from a place of personal experience and practical understanding. He has taken the time to educate himself, practice daily, and evolve his teaching based on his student's needs. Derek embodies the belief that 'it's not about me, it's about the students." His classes are technical, motivating, and offer focused training every class. With 16 years of daily personal practice and 11 years of teaching thousands of students across the world in dozens of studios his vision for Boiler House is to be an instrument of development for his student's personal lifestyle - physical, mental, spiritual well being. Derek accepts an unlimited number of clients for three week courses in nutrition and dynamic movement through the Boiler House Body program.

Derek's Story

Even though I grew up in a world of health and wellness I was not a very healthy person. By age 14 I had tried every diet, counted calories, and was still overweight. It was after being diagnosed morbidly obese that I put thought into action, and because of that I forced the fat off my body until age 16. Soon after I attended my first Yoga class at Bikram Yoga Dallas; it changed my life. After the second breath of that first class, self-realization hit me between the eyes! Never before had I exercised so completely. My entire body and brain felt purified. After 16 years of practice I still #feelamazing from Yoga. It brings a balance of lifestyle that is conducive to long, healthy living. Having faith lthy body and a peaceful mind. Since my Bikram certification in 2006 I've taught Yoga both internationally and in the US, and served as a staff member at Bikram's teacher training program in Hawaii. Most recently, I have held management positions at various studios and have helped successfully launch several more. I am certified in Unnata Aerial Yoga and Tony Sanchez Master Core + and hold a bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of North Texas. It is in the spirit of community, joy, personal growth, and fun that I share my passion how Yoga is totally awesome. I look forward to meeting you in the hot room soon!
